The Bookstop vegetarian café is a little gem! As well as being the place to go in Kenmare for healthy and nutritious vegetarian, vegan and even raw meals, it features another unique concept in that it is also a second-hand bookshop. The walls are covered with pre-owned books of all types, which you can browse at your leisure as you sip your coffee and take in the lovely surroundings. The books are inexpensive and great finds have been made, with a very varied and eclectic selection covering just about every genre. We also have a small number of brand new locally-produced books by local authors, who we are keen to support. At certain times of years we sometimes have live music and book readings or signings, details of which can be found right here in our News section. Keep an eye out for upcoming events.
Our coffees and teas are all organic and the delicious food, which is prepared daily on the premises is also mainly organic. In addition, as many of our ingredients as possible are locally sourced, with a lot of it coming from our shop directly across the road! The café is situated conveniently directly opposite the shop for easy access. Healthy salads and fresh cooked food, with several raw or almost-raw options, are the order of the day here. We have a strong vegan offering and always gluten-free choices available, and can cater to a variety of other dietary requirements where required.
We have several special offers days weeks including Soup-A-Wednesdays and Fiver Fridays (as the names suggest) where you can pick up amazing deals on our nourishing fare, again all freshly prepared and mostly organic (the soup is always vegan). We make ALL our own cakes and biscuits using spelt – never wheat – and always using free range eggs (except in the case of our large selection of vegan cakes, which of course contain no eggs). We have fresh spelt scones daily, a local favourite, serve our own famous hummus and homemade pesto, etc. etc. There are always a selection of raw and gluten-free treats available, plus a selection of cold drinks, including our own wild-foraged elderflower cordial in the summer months! We have free wi-fi, and our friendly staff are always ready to welcome you with a smile and answer any questions or help to chose what to eat from the delicious menu. Our menu changes seasonally, with additional specials being added on a regular basis. Last but not least, our small but quiet garden is very popular on sunny days and well- behaved dogs are welcome to share this oasis of peace and tranquility.
